Function of Beauty Blog,
Definition of Beauty Column
2020-2022
Role:
Head of Copy, Editor in Chief
As Head of Copy at Function, I worked closely with my team to push through on work that celebrates individuality–a core value stakeholders were cautious about executing on in profound and overt ways. As a brand that spoke to inclusivity across hair types and cultures but without a diverse executional team, it was imperative to create a space where speaker and topic were consistently broadened, Through column pitches and creation, budget proposal, and talent sourcing and management, I redefined the breadth of Function’s blog content strategy to include topics of beauty beyond the superficial.
Matching our marketing calendar and efforts across product innovation, I conceptualized and briefed in topics to organically-found contributors. As a white woman running the editorial team, it was important to me to set a light framework around writer’s topics of choice and levels of vulnerability, and regularly went to bat with cross-functional teams for their freedom to write about beauty as it relates to culture, sexuality, identity, and self actualization. These stories can now be found across the Function of Beauty blog.
